COMMUNITY 2.0 EXECUTIVE SUMMARY AND EXO ATTRIBUTES
Community 2.0 (C 2.0) will mobilize individuals and organizations in the greater Pasadena community and larger L.A. County area to take action to help overcome climate emergency challenges.
The climate emergency is a global challenge so C 2.0 will link with other organizations and initiatives around the world to share and leverage resources toward UN goals to restore the environment, mitigate global warming, and create a culture that includes living in balance with nature and each other.
We will focus our actions in these areas: Marketing, culture shift, and exponential change.
MARKETING: An effective strategy for education and persuasion to convince the public that the climate crisis (emergency) is real and has to be confronted as one of the most serious challenges facing humanity as a whole4.
CULTURE SHIFT: Everyone can begin to adopt lifestyle choices that contribute to solutions. Businesses and government need to get involved and change practices and policies that contribute to sustainability4.
EXPONENTIAL CHANGE: The scope and scale of mobilization of resources needed to overcome climate challenges is as great as those faced during the last world war, and technologically speaking, on par with landing a man on the moon. A new exponential business model and disruptive technologies are making what used to be impossible, possible.
This endeavor will require transformation in our lifestyles, not mere change. It will require new perspectives, mindsets, skillsets, and toolsets that can tap the full human potential individually, collectively and cumulatively. It will require thought leaders in every aspect of human potential development and exponential technology development working together to apply successful practices on a wider scope and scale for collective gain and impact on climate emergency challenges. And, we must view our transformation as permanent steps toward a new culture so we will not repeat past mistakes and instead make strides to a world that is sustainable and equitable for years and generations to come.
Humankind is at a turning point. The stakes could not be higher; we succeed or we become extinct. Impossible as it may seem, the extinction of humans will only be one more species added to a list of extinctions already under way for quite a long time. Consider these startling statistics: Already 90% of fish stocks the UN monitors are fully exploited, overexploited or depleted1. A multiyear study in Germany showed a 76% decline in insect biomass. Ninety-six percent of the biomass of mammals - biomass is their weight on Earth - now consists of humans, their pets and farm animals, and not wild animals. A collapse is under way, consider yourself warned.1 Worse, these negative results may have a compounding effect and multiply on each other.
As dire as this may sound, there is good news to be had. A compound effect is also happening in a positive direction. A new business model called Exponential Organizations (ExO)2 has surfaced based on the unprecedented growth and ability of some businesses (and some social applications too) to have wide scale and extraordinary success based on disruptive technologies that compound where they interact and act interdependently. The term convergence is used to describe this phenomenon and it offers hope that we can save ourselves from compounding negative challenges. C 2.0 will use the ExO model as a tool to frame, drive and create the monumental change needed within and among partner organizations committed to this challenge.
In this era of exponential change the only sure path forward is continuous experimentation. As disruptive technologies continue to come onboard and begin to converge no one know what their combined impact will be. What can be predicted is as soon as one version of the future is created, another disruption will soon follow. During this type of change that can breed a feeling of being unmoored it will be necessary to create a sense of calm and trust, a sort of eye in the middle of a hurricane. A place where we can be both stable and dynamic and continue experimenting with new solutions. A community of kindred spirits, all of us explorers, in the new frontier of exponential change. A next-gen community: Community 2.0.
A silver lining is apparent in the cloud above us if we choose to look. A rare opportunity is upon us where we have to tap our full potential as individuals and together. It’s almost as if we have been given a gift but we have to shift our perspective to see it that way. But if we can, “If we can change the preposition, and consider that global warming if happening for us - an atmospheric transformation that inspires us to change and reimagine everything we make and do…we begin to live in a different world. We take 100% responsibility and stop blaming others. We see global warming not as an inevitability but as an invitation to build, innovate, effect change, a pathway that awakens creativity, compassion, and genius.”3
This positive, proactive, call to action to step up toward our full human potential, embark on a path toward living purposefully and passionately, a journey that has us working together as human beings regardless of our nationality, culture or other affiliation, this is the path of C 2.0 and all who join us.

ExO ATTRIBUTES APPLIED TO C 2.0
MTP (Massive Transformative Purpose): THRIVING PEOPLE CREATING A SUSTAINABLE PLANET
STAFF ON DEMAND
C 2.0 will contract out for almost all services needed to be performed to launch and sustain our community benefit corporation. The one exception is a CEO who will push the agenda for monumental change, hold a vision of a global community of local communities, usher in a new human culture that is sustainable and equitable, and champion the process to manifets the vision.
COMMUNITY AND CROWD
C 2.0 will grow in new and different physical locations as well as definitions of community. It is envisioned that businesses, municipalities, even government agencies may want to start “C 2.0 communities” to bring their diverse sectors together around shared concerns and “lowest common denominator” metrics to help overcome climate challenges.
ALGORITHIMS
C 2.0 will use algorithms to search for, collect, and mine data from C 2.0 communities globally as we test ways to develop human capacity and technological capacity, and the two merged to enhance each other.
LEVERAGED ASSETS
C 2.0 will leverage the brain power and innovative ideas in communities around the world. As experiments are made to match underutilized assets to address needs, data and solutions will be brought back to the C 2.0 mothership to be made available to other C 2.0 locations.
ENGAGEMENT
C 2.0 will gamify education of the public by adding climate lessons into current most popular video games and by requiring climate actions to advance to higher levels within games.
In addition we will seek funds to offer an X-Prize for community mobilization on climate initiatives.
INTERFACES
C 2.0 will use interfaces and platforms (Ecochallenge) to help members chart progress toward a sustainable lifestyle, adopt new practices and habits, and breakthrough ineffective habits.
C 2.o will provide entire communities to chart progress toward UN goals, and collectively all organizations, companies and municipalities individual contributions and their cumulative impact too.
DASHBOARDS
Use dashboards to identify different rituals metrics that lead to success for businesses, community organizations, even individuals because they maintain focus on priorities.
EXPERIMENTATION
Use the Ecochallenge to experiment to validate assumptions made regarding C 2.0 inspiring people, mobilizing them to action, increased results from collaborative efforts, and sustaining new able practices. Use new C 2.0 locations and communities to test new ideas for enhanced results in all areas of operations and share to all locations.
AUTONOMY
Encourage members to write a plan to manifest their dreams as C 2.0 projects. New models and applications of C 2.0. Encourage members in new locations to try different approach to achieve. goals.
SOCIAL TECHNOLOGIES
Use tools such as Google Docs, Trello, Slack and Yammer to enhance our ability to communicate and operate as a team within C 2.0 and among partner organizations and stakeholder groups.
